1971 Mustang Coupe

Today see's the end in sight for this stage of the project. Not a restoration or a refurbishment, but somewhere in between......The project came to us from a client in the Northern Cape... He had the car painted and it was delivered back to him - if I would hazard a guess - in a worse state than when he gave them the project... Not one panel aligned, welding work done after the paint?.?.?.. basically the job was an abortion.... You will see by the pictures....

I took a call and met with the client and he explained to me what happened and that he would like to re do it. As I could only quote on the car once I had seen it, he sent it up to the shop where I duly went through it. I explained that there was no real way to do this other than start from scratch..

Go ahead was given and the project started it's arduous journey to bring this beautiful car back to it's former glory.

Stage 1.

• We stripped the vehicle down and removed the engine in readiness for sandblasting.

• Got it back from sand blasting only to find that there was plenty of work ahead for us...

• Start prep work for primer process - There was so much filler on this car - in some places 1-2 inch thick!!!! Lot's of re shaping......

• Then came the Christmas break.

• After the Christmas break it was decided to re sand blast areas using a very fine application.

• After this, we consulted with Standox and decided which would be the best way forward.

• We covered the car in etch primer, followed by HS primer to give us a solid base to work on.

• We then set to work with all the alignment work.

• Final primer and then stage 1 paint.

As you can see from the pictures, the project is getting there. It has taken some time, but a lot of time and effort has gone into it to get it where it is today. We will be updating this blog as the progress continues. Next will be stage 2 - The rebuild.
